In the left sidebar there is a menu that lets you access the different features of opubWriter. The Library option shows you the books you are working on within the application.

Within the Library option are the menu items that you choose to work on a selected book. The options are: Content, where you add content documents, like chapters, to your book and where you edit the text they contain; Metadata where you maintain information about your publication – title, creators, contributors, significant dates etc; Media where you upload any images you want to include in your content documents; Styles where you edit the CSS styles that are part of controlling the look and feel of your book; and Style Usage where you select which CSS stylesheets are applied to which pages.

Before you can use any of these features, you must register as a user and login. In the upper right corner of the window there are two buttons marked Register and Login. If you are a new user, click Register. The first step of user registration is to read the Terms and Conditions of using the website and tick the checkbox if you agree to follow them. If you do this and click Next, the following screen is displayed.

Enter an email address, then enter a secret Security Question and Answer. This helps to verify your identity in the future.

It may seen obvious, but you should take steps to keep private your Password, your Security Question, and the Answer to your Security Question.

If you completed all fields on the form, your User Name is not already in use, and your Password meets the requirements, then a new account will be created. A confirmation message will be displayed showing that the account was created.

If you entered these details correctly you will be logged in to opubWriter and can start to use it. The application will take you directly to your library page where your books are displayed. If your library is empty, as it will be the first time you access it, then your first job will be either to create a new ebook or to upload an existing one. These features are discussed in the lesson entitled Managing Your Library.

Forgotten your Password?

If you forget your password then, even without logging in, you can ask to have your password reset. Click on the ‘Forgotten your Password?’ link on the Home page. A page is displayed which invites you to submit your User Name. If the User Name is found then you are required to answer the security question that you specified when you first registered to use opubWriter. If you answer this question correctly then a new password is sent to the email address you gave at registration.
When you receive the new password, you can use it to log in. After logging in, it is recommended that you use the Change Password option so you don’t continue to use a password that was sent in plain text by email.

When you correctly specify a new password, a confirmation message is displayed and you can continue to use opubWriter.
